Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Materials
Does merino wool itch?
No. Our fibres are below 19.5 microns, the threshold under which wool does not cause a prickly sensation. That is why our garments can be worn next to the skin.
Where does the wool come from?
From Australian growers. The supply chain is Responsible Wool Standard certified, and the non-mulesed status (NM) is attested on an Australian Wool Testing Authority certificate.
Where are the products made?
Socks are knitted in Italy. The rest of production takes place in China.
What is the difference between RWS and AWTA?
RWS is a supply chain certification audited by an independent third party: it covers animal welfare, land management and traceability. AWTA is the Australian testing authority: it measures fibre diameter and records the mulesing status declared by the grower. The two are complementary.
Sizing
Which fabric weight should I choose?
140 gsm for summer and high output, from +5 to +20 °C. 210 gsm for winter and layering, from −5 to +10 °C. 300 gsm as a midlayer in severe cold, from −15 to +5 °C.
How do I choose my size?
Every product page includes a size guide with measurements. Base layers have a close fit, the rest of the range a regular fit.
Care
How do I wash merino wool?
Wool cycle at 30 °C, wool detergent, gentle spin, dry flat. No fabric softener and no tumble drying.
How many days can I wear the same garment?
Depending on effort and airing, several days in a row. Keratin limits the bacteria responsible for odours: merino is aired rather than washed.
Does merino shrink?
Not if it is washed at 30 °C on a wool cycle and dried flat. Shrinkage comes from the combination of heat, mechanical agitation and unsuitable detergent.
